FRIDAY 14 OCTOBER 2011
We decided to give the glitz of the Gold Coast a miss, so today is our last official day in Queensland. Heading across the border into NSW really feels like we are on the way home - albeit over a couple more months.
The Queensland wrap-up:
Favourite overall destination: So hard to pick - with everything from rainforest, magnificent beaches and resort towns, all the places we visited have had their own unique appeal. Toss up between 1770 and Palm Cove.
Overrated destination: Definitely Karumba. We had heard it was a quiet little fishing/beach town, but it turned out to be full of Victorian retirees with tinnies catching more fish every day than they could possibly eat.Best “tourist” experience: Would love to have said whale watching at Hervey Bay, but given the bad weather, it wasn’t to be. Australia Zoo was fantastic, as was our daytrip to Whitehaven.
Best beach: Queensland isn’t famous for its beaches for nothing. So many to pick from, but Whitehaven stands out above them all. Best beach of the trip so far.
Best campground: Noosa North Shore - so close to the action of Noosa, but far enough away to feel like you are in the middle of nowhere. Cape Tribulation comes a close second.
