1. MONDAY 12 - FRIDAY 16 SEPTEMBER 2011 Beachfront campgrounds are pretty thin on the ground in this part of Queensland - all the good spots seem to be taken up by caravan parks and resorts. So it was a pleasant surprise to discover Smalleys Beach, about 30km from Mackay. There are no neighbours, no showers, no TV and our own little track to the beach just metres from the van. We have settled into a lazy rhythm of fishing, reading, strolling and snoozing and five days feels like five weeks.
